I know BF2 was supposed to be the one that got it all going, but I've only played BC2 so I'm gonna have to vote that.

Judging each game by its own time period, I'm going to have to go with BF2. 1942 started it, but BF2 got the 64 player mess organized, added amazing maps, was ahead of its time in terms of leveling/unlocking, and just destroyed every other multiplayer game out there. I'm not going to understate the importance of the frostbite engine, and I enjoy BC2 immensely, but BF2 was one of the most well-rounded multiplayer shooters ever. I simply cannot wait for the grand-scale of BF2 to meet the chaotic destruction of BF3. Mind is blown just contemplating it.

^ Pretty much says it all...I am torn between 1942 and BF2..1942 was one of my first games that I got when I started getting into pc's..It was a great game at the time with big maps and really good online play...BF2 though is probablly my game of all time (any platform). It did have it's set backs in the beginning like a lot of games but EA/Dice got it right after a few patches..This game had it all...Jets, Choppers, Armor, Inf only...I can go on and on...God, the time spent playing Karkand, Sharqi and Jalalabad...Just an all around awesome game...For you guys that never played it go spend the $10 and get it...It will be money well spent and there are still a lot of servers and a lot of people that play it.

Poor old vietnam, nothing

Well, I got BF2 as one of my first shooters so its obviously my first choice. It appears a large percentage of people came after BF2(BC2 doesn't compare to the originals imo).

Loved BF2 (voted for it) but love the destruction in BC2...hard to choose but much much love for BF2!!

BF1942

The maps, the vehicles, the classes, the balance, the community, the strategy.
Operation aberdeen , defending wake island from jap planes, holding tobruk from allied side, charging omaha beach, blitzkrieg in battle of the bulge, M10s, shermans , panzers, b17s , bf109s, apc, jeeps, thompsons, type 99, STGs, k98 rifles, the zooks, the tank secondary weapons. The game had it all , high altitude dogfights, amazing tank duels, insane infantry combat, dive bombers , naval combat, you had a great time zooking people in the face.
almost 10 years have passed

Battlefield 2 was the bomb, but I must honestly say I'm more hooked to Battlefield Bad Company 2 than I ever was to Battlefield 2. I'm still hooked. Hence my vote.

Now, Battlefield 1942 with the Desert Combat modification - that was damn, damn good. I especially loved the helicopter control on it which required constant fine tuning to make sure you hover. Made it more skillful than just "let go and have it hover".

I got a wicked joystick ONLY to play the helo's in DC lol...i loved the anti-armor double chain gun 'bird' helo(?) the smaller black one....use to destroy tanks with it, and take on two apaches at the same time, back flips in the air and all that jazz....man those were my favorite flying/combat simulation days.
