Good way of cooling my PC?

Thread Starter
Hello guys,

Little story:
I'm thinking of doing smth to cool my PC a little. I built it in November last year, when I knew nothing about hardware. I did a lot of reading and came up with my build, but unfortunately I didn't know back then that I also need some good cooling. I thought that good cases or CPU coolers were just a way to make ur system look nice. I didn't care for the looks so I just picked a cheap case and used the stock CPU cooler. It was fine during the colder days, but summer is now here and my temps are quite high, and also the sound is unbearable. Thus, I've decided to upgrade.

Plan:
I'm going to buy the following things.
  • CPU cooler: CM Hyper 212 +
  • Case: CM 690 II
  • Case fans: don't know yet which ones.

How can you help?
Do you think this upgrade is good? If not, what shall I change?
Is there anything having better price/performance ratio? I'm quite on a budget.
What case fans shall I use? I like the color of these. I'd like a green theme in my computer, but could also live without.

I am sorry if I misspelled something. I'm not a native speaker.

Good choice with the CM212. I'm running tat same cooler on my i7 960 and it performs brilliantly considering how cheap it is.

The othe thing is the 212 supports ANY 120mm fan, so you could have your CPU fan matching your case fans, which is kinda cool.

Take a look at this. It'll give you an idea of what the cooler looks like inside your case. I tried running it without the fan, but the tem,ps wer too high. I've put a matching fan on it at very low rpm and it never goes over 50degC.

I have both the CM Hyper 212 + and the CM 690 II advanced. They are great options for cooling and the case leaves many possibilities of adding more case fans down the road if desired!

As I understand they really are a really good option. I'd like a little more advice before I decide myself.

I bought the 92mm CM TX3 for $18, and only recently realized I had another fan that fits it

Now I decided against water cooling for now, because a XPSC rasa RX360 kit is ~$300 shipped

for me to get a 120mm CM 212 for $30 doesn't seem like enough of a jump, but I need more cooling than the TX3 can do....off to sleep

Actually the best way to cool a computer is lowering the ambient temp Which usually means an A/C

I think that it would be a great upgrade from your stock cooling. With the CM Hyper 212+ you would see a great improvement over the stock cooler. It also gives you the option to use a Push/Pull configuration whereas you can mount 2 fans on the cooler for better heat dissapation.

The choice of case is also very good, one of the best budget cases around with no compromise in air cooling although you might want to conside the CM 690 II Lite version as it's much cheaper.

As for the fans, the fan that you mentioned is a good one as well though I think it might be quite expensive. Try getting some Cooler Master R4's or Antec Tri Cool fans or Zalman F3's if you're on a tight budget.

What case fans to use?

Buy that 690 II and that Hyper 212+. Then put it together. Then go with it for a while. Only then decide if you need new fans.

If you want new fans:

Nothing smaller than 120mm fans. Read all the reviews. GTG

Thanks for all the advice!

Indeed, I wasn't going to buy the cm 690 II advanced version. I have no need for a VGA holder or A SATA connection on top of my case.(afaik these are the main differences)

As for fans, I know the case has a lot of places I can mount them, so I thoght to use some more in addition to what it comes with to make a better air flow.
