Long Term Storage

Thread Starter
Hello everybody,

I recently built a new computer and replaced my hard drives.

I still have my old hard drives, and they are still good. I would like to keep them for a few months to a year, until I might be ready to make a second computer for a friend or for some other project.

Given this desire, should I store my HDDs in a particular war? Do I need anti-static bags, any kind of special environment, etc? As much detail as possible is appreciated !

Thanks & God Bless !

Is there data that you want to protect or you just want to keep them?
If there is data, I would go the extra mile of putting them of a place where they wont fall / be damaged. A wrap of bubble wrap and a sillica gel packet might be a little extra or it might be paranoid. Your choice

Can you guys suggest any places to pick up the Anti-Static bags + Silica packs? I have bubble wrap already.

In terms of the physical spot they sit, any recommendations? Obviously somewhere stable they won't get pushed or knocked, and probably out of sunlight, humidity, etc.

I do have data on them

Newegg, but I amassed mine from stealing them from people when they buy new hardware. Keep them somewhere dry, flat and sturdy, out of direct sunlight or air conditioning.
