Well you can always boot windows onto the mac, but you couldn't (legally) put mac on your alienware. Enjoy your mac, I'm getting one in a month or 2

Honestly, I prefer Premier (for simple edits or laying down rough footage) with After Effects for pretty much everything else. Final Cut is a great program, but it isn't the undisputed king for small business/personal users. Buying a computer based around one program seems a little silly. However, if you honestly wanted a MBP because you just wanted one then it is your money and enjoy it.

I agree to the people that said Its a totally different animal than your Alienware, and IMO I would rather have a mac over an Alienware.

But if thats what you want, you may have what you want, ENJOY!!

If you do a lot of video editing, and you like the Mac interface more, there's nothing silly in getting that platform IMO.

Just like SO many people will be building new platforms for BF3, etc.

Final Cut was a serious decision in purchasing this, But it wasn't the sole reason I got it.

I also purchased it because I was legitimately interested in OSX (Changing it up) and some of the other programs OSX seems to have exclusively or seems to run better. So far, for why I got it, I'm pretty happy.

I just got it today though I picked it up yesterday (Had work)... Haven't had the chance to buy Final Cut and I'm not sure if I will considering the next version is (rumored) to arrive next week for MUCH, much less cost wise.

I've considered doing this but I'm going to have to see how BF3 plays out to be honest, I might just be happy with it on console.

I think, as an "enthusiast user", I've kind of dropped down ever since getting an actual job and education.

I am convinced more than half the people in this thread are jealous, insecure, or otherwise lack sufficient knowledge about anything to make accurate and unbiased opinions about things.

@ OP, that's a solid laptop. Apple really has been turning things around recently with Macs, but I've hated on them so hard in the past (when they arguably deserved it, at least far more than now) that my integrity with my friends would be totally gone if I got one. :'(

I wouldn't say it is jealousy at all, I used to bash macs (as I'm sure everyone has)... I remained sort of biased against them until I actually did research and put time into learning about them.

Insecurity doesn't seem to have a major role though I'm sure some people have repressed thoughts

This is apples to oranges.

Building a rig for BF3 won't effectively isolate you from other programs. It is about hitting benchmarks.

Buying a Mac for Final Cut Pro will isolate you from other industry standard programs because you like shiny blue radio buttons and glass sliders. Non-linear editing programs are all very comparable in their functionality.

Not so, building a BF3 rig will isolate you from running Mac applications, that is the point I'm making here. Platform agnosticism isn't an option yet, so everyone is making a decision. Doing it for a single app isn't silly if you spend 80% of your time using that app, and everything else you do has a Mac alternative (probably the case).

Mac may have LESS supported apps, but that doesn't matter if you don't use them.

That would indeed, be idiotic. Too bad the Mac is typically the industry standard in visual art, which is what the OP is involved in. Honestly, the GUI on OSX is great.
