For a high end laptop it's stupid to get anything other than a macbook imo because of genuinely good service options and an extremely good value on resale. Heck I sold a 3 year old Mac Mini for like 80% of what I paid for it.. that's just insane. But since it's a pretty white box they have great resale value.

Apple is definitely popular with design students but beyond that in the real world but it's true mac doesn't hold the media professional crown anymore.

I won a scholarship a year ago which gifted me a budget of $1400 for the notebook of my choice. I chose the most expensive Macbook Pro I could find and still love it. Building a gaming PC now so I can play the higher end games and keeping my Xbox 360 for giggles.

Yes, Quark is long gone. My post was basically from the point of compatibility with the industry, which I guess I'm not up to speed on - I had no idea about Premier's popularity waning.
