Question about SSD + Raid 0 HDD Config

Thread Starter
I just ordered a Crucial M4 128gb SSD to add to my current build. I currently have 2 samsung F3 1TB on RAID 1 that contains my OS and all my data. I am going to use this SSD to run my OS. My question is that I've read that most SSD should be run with bios set to AHCI but mine is currently set to RAID for my RAID 1 setup.

BIOS does SATA 1-4 in a group and SATA 5-6 in a group. My F3's are on SATA 1 and 2 set to RAID and my OPtical DVD burner is on SATA 5 and SATA 5-6 are set to IDE.

How do I go about setting this up the best way so I can have my SSD run optimally with my F3's on RAID 1. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am kind of a RAID/AHCI noob.

You need to set your SSD as RAID ready configured for RAID and not IDE. RAID is pretty much AHCI so it will perform much better than if you have it as IDE. Trim should still work in that config seeing as it did on my 790FX board.

Will my DVD drive work properly on AHCI, the mobo manual says best to set it to IDE for optical drives that you use to install the OS. I will have to install the OS from the DVD drive once I setup the SSD

plug DVD drive into ports 3-4? Maybe set ports 1-4 into IDE and use software RAID for the F3's?

I have all my ports set to RAID mode and I don't even have RAID arrays. Single drives will automatically operate in AHCI and there is no problem running DVD drive in AHCI/RAID either.
