955 Overclocking performance, am I doing something wrong?

I just received my case for my 955 build until I decide to put a bulldozer in there, and I started overclocking. I used CPU level-up to start, getting it to 3.6 Ghz stable as can be. My peak temps (stock cpu cooling) were around 46C. I then started increasing the CPU multiplier to 18.5 (in increments) to achieve 4162Mhz, running stability tests until the cpu temp maxxed out (currently ~53C). I'm still going, pushing my multi until the system hangs.

I just wanted to get a professional's opinion, am I overclocking in the correct manner? I have heard of 4200 Mhz on this cpu with stock cooling, but it's looking like I'll hit 4400 Mhz or higher at this rate. Should I be trying to increase something else simultaneously?

I have the CPU VID set to 1.4, I don't know how high I should raise it.

53*c is already pushing it on that chip - if you have 30 bucks, go to amazon and pick up a Cooler Master 212+.

if i remember correctly, 1.5v is the recommended max for air cooling. 53c is getting up there for a phenom II chip, i wouldnt go any higher until you get better cooling. 4.1 on air out of a 955 is pretty good, mine would only do 3.8 no matter what i did.

1.55v is the maximum voltage.

I hit 4.4 with a 965 easy but I just cinebenched and brought it back down.. It would be hard to keep it truly stable (Prime95 2+hrs) with decent temps (<56c). You may have lucked out and gotten an excellent CPU!!

Thanks for the input, I want to overclock my NB but I hate the thought of having to restart my computer over and over... I was cheating a and using AMD overdrive for the CPU Overclocking, I got bluescreen after 4387 Mhz at 19.5 multi 1.4V. I scoured the bios, but I'm a little concerned I might change something I don't want to.

I'll stick to 19 multi, and run prime95 tonight (with a little help from mr. box fan) to make sure it's stable at 1.4V. When I get new cooling (going to start watercooling sometime in July) I'll mess with CPU voltage and peak this bad boy out.

How far does the northbridge OC? And, that's memory and PCI lanes right?
