Need a new sound card.

Thread Starter
Well, my Auidigy 2 decided to die. I need a new sound card....
I have a 4 speaker and 1 sub setup... nothing fancy. I would add the center channel if i can find another speaker somewhere. Anyways i need a new card. Nothing to expensive. Budget is under 50 bucks
I game, watch movies and listen to music (Mostly bassy/dubstepish type stuff) on this PC

Looks like a Xonar DS is right up your alley.

Ditto. I have a 5.1 surround system though, and my budget goes up to 100$. I'd usually go with some Creative X-Fi or whatever they're called, but I saw many complaints about drivers and installation on newegg, so I'm wondering if I should just stick to onboard sound if I get a fancy mobo.

Honestly I don't think there's a difference. I wasn't aware of multiple versions of the DS.

You may want to look into Xonar DG too- cheaper and has a headphone amp and supports dolby headphones (if you need that for gaming) but its only 5.1....

HD555s are stereo/two-channel speakers. 5.1 speakers are six-channel speakers.

Do the math.

Anyway OP, I would go for the DG. It sounds like you're describing a 5.1 setup in your OP anyway, plus the headphone amp will give you extra freedom if you ever wanna buy headphones.

The headphones are stereo, so no, they will not suffer. In fact, you may get better positioning with the DG because of dolby headphone (for movies and games and such) and a headphone amp is always welcome.

EDIT: Ahh, Cuad, you beat me there
