I am coming from a Mac Pro dual E5520 (2.26 Quad Core)

I replaced it with a Dell Precision T7500 with dual x5680 (6 core; 3.33GHz) cpu's and 96gb ram.

I saw a pretty good increase in day-to-day performance.

I have always wanted to have the best of the best. However, I usually just browse the web. Run Eclipse (software development), and compile software.

I don't do any video editing, and any graphics work I do is just around creating icons / etc for application design. No games.

So for my dad I found a deal on a Dell XPS 8300 with an i7-2600 and 8gb ram. Other than the RAM I can't tell a difference between the two machines in my day to day performance.

Really making me think of taking the T7500 and shipping it back to dell and going to get a 2600k for myself. Reading on doing some builds on here. Getting this computer for my dad is the only reason I looked at the 2600 and found this website to be honest.

I have attached a photo it's really amusing how much larger the T7500 is than the XPS 8300 and the Mac Pro. Another thing I've noticed is the Mac Pro and the XPS can sit on carpet, but the T7500 doesn't like it at all. Has these feet on the bottom so it sits up a little off the ground. There are two T7500's, one is a dual E5645 with 4gb ram (2.4Ghz 6 core) . I quickly found that the E5645 for what I do doesn't help over the E5520 in the old mac pro. So I ordered the X5680 and thought I could use it for VM's with the 96gb ram. But now I think it's just a waste.

Does anyone have any interest in me doing any specific comparisons of these two machines. I'd love to play around with the T7500 / 2600 and give any details I can.

Thanks!
