Just did it laughingsmiley.gif

Use hwmonitor for overall temp system and it's more accurate for cpu temp and core temp.

I want to thank the OC community here for being so generous with first hand experience and expertise.thumb.gif

I mounted the case fan on the side panal above the GPU so all those bridge chips and mofset heatsinks get a little breeze. I achieved a very stable 4.1Ghz by setting the CPU Bus Freq. 215Mhz, PCI Bus 100Mhz and CPU ratio at 19.0, but even with ECC disabled I could only run my DDR3 at cas.11 1492Mhz speed **. WEI is giving me 7.5's on everything, so I'm perfectly happy with this result, and even after prime95 and heaven were running overnight, none of my temps peaked over 64°C in a 22°C room with this cheap but well ventilated case. This PC now screams through all the latest games, so I'm glad I didn't spend more for better as it would have been complete overkill for my needs. In 2 years I may upgrade the CPU to an 8 thread Steamroller, RAID0 in a second SSD, and maybe add a second GPU card, thus giving this "old" build a significant performance boost rolleyes.gif

buying over a Month's time for best code/mir/coupon/freeship/notax offers helped keep me under $800;
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Samsung 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: OCZ Agility 4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (OS/Apps)
Storage: Western Digital AV-GP 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Data/Backups)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS90 DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit)

** as i learn more about this mobo i should be able to improve these numbers - will update once it's stable.
UPDATE: I was able to run cas.9 at 1760mhz, but was occasionally unstable, so i backed Bus down to 215.
keep in mind the X4 965 has a 1800mhz AM3 limit, so my OC limit issues may not be the mobo's fault.

oct'18: I can't seem to get the Realtek integrated Audio to work properly - I posted to Asus Support waiting for a Solution;
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20121018222708580&SLanguage=en-us&board_id=1&model=M5A99X%20EVO&page=1

oct'19: I disabled the Realtek sound in the bios, uninstalled their drives and now use a USB speaker/mic headset
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826140035
I also opened an RMA request including all info from this troubleshoot, and hope Asus will RMA exchange without grief.
will update soon how they handle it... i probably won't hear from them till oct'22, but at least i can hear/speak on my PC.
mad.gif

oct'31: Asus online support never got back to me with RMA and shipping info, so I called the NA number and got a human who looked into my case, updated some information and arranged a cross ship swap (with the value credit held on my card) of a NEW board for my defective one. now I have to wait another 2-4 days for the paperwork to get emailed to me so i can fax it in for processing, so that's another week gone redface.gif

nov'6: Asus RMA Dept sent me a visually defective board that I did not want to risk powering up, so I shipped it back to them (with their prepaid FedEx call tag).

25gat60.jpghomer-simpson-doh.gif

nov'9: Asus RMA dept admitted they could not offer to send me a NEW board, so I'm returning my original new board to the reseller for credit, and will buy a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 now on sale for the same price.

the moral of this story is: that as of this writing Asus quality control has deteriorated on both it's new and factory reconditioned products and should now be avoided. you may also find their online support and online RMA system to be useless - so it's best to phone call for service and support. the only good news is I've been running my X4 964 at 4.1Ghz on this mobo at least 16 hours per day, every day - without a single hiccup, so if you were lucky enough to get a defect free board, it may be enjoyable to own.

Hi

I ran in a problem when I tried to undervolt my phenom II 955 C3 with this motherboard. The stock voltage is 1,38 and I have found people running the processor with much lower voltages at stock frequency.

I tried using manual mode to give fixed voltage for the cpu. It works but voltage stays the same even when the cpu drops its frequency to 800mhz. I have cool&quiet and C1e enabled in the bios. TPU and EPU are disabled. I have the latest BIOS installed for the motherboard(1503).

System specs:

Phenom II 955 C3
Asus M5A99X evo
2x2gb kingston 1333mhz ram
500gb WD blue HDD
Windows 7 64-bit
