Quick, easy, HDD checker run from Linux Live?

Hey!

Just got some used HDDs in the mail today. I'm pretty sure they're all gonna work just fine but I want to give them a quick test first. I've never tested a HDD before so I have no idea what software to use. I assume the best way is to test the drive from a Linux Live CD(DVD). I don't care which distro, I just want it to be quick. I don't want to test the HDD with tooo much detail either. just a quick 20min or hour scan that tests the drives and sectors is fine.

Suggestions?
Thanks!

(or even a windows HDD tester?)

Just run them through HDTune or CrystalDiskInfo.
That will give you the SMART data.

thanks mbudden. I realize with all the SSD tests people are running these days this info would be easy to come by... but these are regular HDDs and im not looking for speed tests so I guess me thread is a little dead. will try the programs you suggested tomorrow. thanks!
