It doesnt discriminate between safe mode, I'm thinking that the reason why i tend to not shut down in safe mode, is... Well it's safe mode! It's not as hard on the CPU or whatever it is... Then as soon as I install a game, or do any hard task it takes a minute or so to heat up my CPU enough so that it shuts down, that's why it doesnt happen right as I start a process, it happens near the middle right when it gets it hottest?

AM I RITE GUISE??? So buying that heatsink/fan should really fix it... If 1 pin really creates that much distance between the copper contact and the cpu?
Having a missing mounting point (of four!) makes a very sizable impact on temperatures. Considering your CPU is a dual die chip, it will generate very uneven distribution among the cores. It's very possible for your mean CPU temp to be tolerable, but you may have one core in particular that's getting hot enough to trigger Intel's safeguards.

You will ALWAYS have discrepancies between your cores. That's normal.

But if you are missing 1 mounting point of 4, that means that heatsink isn't making full contact with the CPU. Which means basically, you're almost running that CPU without a heatsink at all.

So yes...you're overheating. Your machine is shutting off to prevent a meltdown. Take that as a hint. Keep it shut off until you fix that mount or get a new cooler.

Beleive me i took it as a hint, especially when the second time after it was on i smelt a ozoney smell... It's off now... will leave it until i install a new fan/heatsink/TIM... Probly sometime mon-tues...

BTW the fan/heatsink i chose from what bestbuy.ca has
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...b64b42bae0en02

my TIM is this 14dollar tube from a source store. it's their store brand too, silicone based with zinc oxide, looks white...

If I had it my way id order arctic silver, with a nice coolermaster mount or mabye even get into water cooling with a antec kuhler thingamagig, but unfortunately until i upgrade my computer i dont have the money and air cooling is sufficient enough for now.

Can anyone recommend a heatsink/fan sold at retail anywhere near me???
I live in the lower mainland of BC, canada... So best buys future shops, london drugs... those kinda stores???

That cooler WILL NOT work. That's for a Socket A motherboard (from like 2002). You have an LGA 775 motherboard (a lot newer, needs a better cooler).

I'll check the BB link you gave, and see what they have available.

EDIT:
Do you happen to live close to NCIX?

What I found:
Best Buy - Rocketfish 92mm cooler - $41.99
(That's literally the only cooler that'll work as good or better than stock that Best Buy carries, that's worth mentioning).

NCIX (assuming you live close to them, or can wait for the shipping):
CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ - $29.98
Corsair A50 - $59.99 (honestly, not worth it over the 212+ as the 212+ is a solid cooler)
Antec Kuhler H20 620 - $60 (best option you'll find, and not a bad price either for a sealed water cooler that's known to work well).

NCIX allows you to pick up in store I believe. So there you go, get the 212+ or that sweet Antec sealed water loop.

Then grab the 212+ then. It's only $30, and it'll be 100x better than stock. Stock coolers alone are usually $15-20 for a replacement. Spend the extra $10 and have a much better cooler.

See my original post back on the first page. This really sounds like a short on the board somewhere to me. For the computer to just shut off instantly sounds like electrical/short related....
