So the crossfire 6950 gave me almost no performance increase in Crysis... - Page 6

I don't think its personally just an ATI problem. In my other topic on the PC games board, plenty of people claim they are running it just fine with slower ATI CF setups than me. Others are running it with SLI setups just fine.

It makes me beleive its something in the software/driver configuration. But honestly, I am new to PC gaming you could say. I was into it big in the Half Life 1 era but been using consoles for the longest time.

Even if the coding is bad, I should have drops into the 20s, and mostly average 30-40 FPS with spikes quite often. Its not smooth at all.

1. Graphic settings do NOT seem to matter. I get huge variations in FPS even on Medium or Very High. The game is jumpy OFTEN.

2. My GPUs often stay in the 40-50% range when it actually matters. They both jumped to 99% in the damn menu but backed down to 40% in a firefight when I resumed game.

3. Run perfectly means actually run the game right. As close to 60 or higher as possible all the time. I could care less about AA. Im not anal about small details. What I am looking for is the performance I see from benchmarks, and what I hear from people with 'not as good' GPU setups as this.

4. Im just irritated. If it sounds like Im being an ***, I don't mean it too. I planned on relaxing this weekend. But I been fighting trying to get these cards to run a game properly on my birthday and fathers day. Its getting aggravating.

5. I appreciate all the help anyone can give me.

Crysis for me runs butter smooth until the carrier level, but that's the case with everyone.

Have you updated to patch 1.2?
Don't use patch 1.21.

Ok got another scenario for you guys to check out.

Started a fresh new game. I have MSI On screen top left, Fraps bottom right, Crossfire top right, with r_displayinfo 1 covering.

Opening airplane sequence. Mostly 90+ GPU usage each. When the camera pans behind the planes engines, the game skipped for 3 seconds or so and the GPU usage dropped to 70ish each and got a little lower. When it got to the guys talking on deck, it jumped back to 90+

Falling into the water, GPUs dropped to 70 each. Once I got on the beach it hovered between 70 and 90 for the most part. I was averaging 70-80ish during the beach assault. A few times it dropped to 55-60 running through the jungle which I noticed my GPU usage was also around 60 each during those times.

When you first see daylight on top of the cliff overlooking the small enemy base it dropped BAD. I aimed at the tip of the small dock and GPU usage hovered around 38-40 and FPS were mid 40s. I stand still and turn around to face the jungle....jumps to 70-80 FPS and GPU usage jumps up to 99% each.

Reading around 1080p Crysis warhead enthusiast settings on 6950 crossfire is average in the 60's, minimums in the low 30s. Warhead runs better then Crysis. You won't get max GPU usage 100% of the time in any game.

Benchmarks typically can because it's hard to render scenes in a short period of time.

Sounds like you're expectations are too high. You need to spend mega bucks if you want to max out Crysis at super high settings, super smoothly. I wouldn't bother building a system to max out Crysis. It's old and it really doesn't look much better going from High to Very high.

Honestly sounds like you spent an extra 300 and you had no idea what your doing or how to use it.. not to mention no one can help you very much when you dont fill out your specs.

I have been told by several people with LOWER end GPU setups that say they run it just fine averaging 60+ @ 1080p on very high.

When I lower my settings to medium I gain an average of 5-8 FPS but still have the insane jumpy performance.

I never came in here pretending that I do know what I am doing. If I knew what was wrong, do you think I would post here?

I just filled out my system specs to make it easier. I have provided several scenes just to give some general areas and reasons maybe why the game bogs down.

Being told and it being real are 2 different things. It's easy to google 6950 crossfire benchmarks and see the general performance you should be getting.

Keep in mind AVERAGING 60 is NOT minimum 60. Plenty of people can average that, but they would still be getting dips in performance.

Grab the basic version of 3dmark11 just to see if crossfire is working properly and post it here. Also, get the Crysis benchmark tool and run it and post pictures so we can see what you are getting along with Afterburner up to see GPU usage graphs.

What else do you have besides Metro and Crysis?

Metro
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Fear games
Might and Magic V + expansions
Arcanum
Fallout 3 (modded with ultra textures)
Witcher 1
FarCry2
some others

Mainly Metro, Crysis, and Warhead are the only ones I would imagine that need crossfire to run properly.
