Virus?

Thread Starter
My dad just gave me a call, he's heading to China in the morning for a business meeting.
He said he just logged on to his computer and he had no icons on his desktop and no programs in his program list.
I have seen this once or twice before, and it was a virus.
At work I usually just format when we have a bad virus so I have never actually "solved" this issue.

My guess is the virus sets all folders and files to Hidden.

Any other ideas before I get logged on on via TeamViewer and take a look?

Well, if the virus just hides the folders/files you could probably go to control panel, folder options, and set folders/files that are hidden to be shown. However, that's probably not the case. Another option, that's worked well for me in the past, is to take out the hard drive, hook it up to a different computer with an external hard drive connector (using USB cable) to view the files/folders. In the worst case scenario the data may be *gulp* deleted...
