should you reccomend me to upgrade to a Q9650 or Q9550?

LOL my motherboard has written on the PCB, "p7n SLI platinum" and it isnt!

Honestly no. You'd be looking at a lot of money to buy a 45nm quad, and your 750i board really won't take a 45nm quad too well. You think your Q6600 has hit a wall? Try getting a chip that wants 500+ FSB for a good overclock (your 3.0GHz is only 333 FSB likely).

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend stepping into another CPU. You might gain a few hundred MHz if that with it, because of your board. It'd be easier to try to push your Q6600 higher.

It's program-dependent, a lot of games still run almost exactly the same with a dual-core clocked pretty well.

I think this is only a good upgrade if you:
A) Don't mind that LGA775 is dead but you are going to drop MORE money into it
B) Plan to stick with the new processor ( 9xxx series) for quite a while, as those are NOT cheap.

In all honestly - as it appears Ive already been beaten to the punch (how you guys write so fast???) its not a good "upgrade" as the money you would spend on said Q9xxx series processor would be enough for a 1155 / 1156 board, ram, and about 40-50 dollars more and you got the processor too~ And that upgrade would lead to not only getting off a dead platform, but also a larger performance improvement.

You know, 3.2Ghz isn't bad over 3.0Ghz, but I worry you will be increasing the voltage to get there, and the overall gain is going to be minimal...

But as we (I think?) always say: Free performance is free~

Absolutely. The more you can get, the better.

With the Q6600's, you want to keep temps below 65*C load. And you want to keep your vcore under 1.60v. I don't remember the other voltages, so you'll have to dig for a guide on 775 overclocking for that.

But just so long as you keep the voltage and temps under the above settings, you're fine to go as high as you can get stable.
