Am I idling high?

Getting around 45c on my 860 with an h70 with only one fan on(need to solder a wire on my ap-14). Load goes up to about 80c. This seems high. I just seated it though with AS5 about 3 hours ago. At stock settings right now.

Hmm. 200 hours is alot. All they sell out here is AS5, and my indigo is for 1366 so I'm SOL(it was just my 1 I had left). Are the temps high for just applying?

Tough to say, since you're missing the 2nd fan it's really hard to judge.

Well, once I go to sleep and wake up later I'm going to solder it. Dropped 5 degrees just after a reboot. Seems like it's getting cooler. Gonna use that AP-14 for push, and the stock fan for pull.

You should use the AP-14 for pull, and the stock fan for push. Some heat will be trapped in the rad because the stock fan won't be able to pull that air out as fast as you're pushing it in. You'll probably get slightly better temps if you put set up the AP-15 as pull.

Okay. I'll try that.

Here is an idea to help lower your temps:
Drop the AS5 and get some NT-H1. AS5 is sooooo 2005. But seriously, no curing time, and I dare say, if your temps are feeling a bit high, it might benefit you to redo your thermal paste. I find that, while I was still making my 5-15th PC I often used too much. the NT-H1 spreads much easier / more even and doesn't need to be "pre-spread" - so it makes it easier to use if you are new to doing thermal paste.

And btw - I don't mean to offend if this is like your 99th build and you KNOW you rock at thermal paste application. It's just a suggestion I had while reading the thread / a thought that ran thru my mind and I was unable to stop myself from writing it down~

Either way, good luck with your temps and let us know what you decide to do~ I'm always curious to see how things "turn out" in the end!

I had a horrid windows install that BSOD and I just repaired. Getting low gflops for 3.5GHz(only 44Gflops at peak). Gonna just backup my videos, naughty stuff, and then reinstall.

Okay, I got both fans, Wow that made a huge difference! Not like with air coolers where another barely helps. I barely ran this thing when I had the 920 and just made sure it worked and sold it. Right now I am getting 5.98 in cinebench(11.5). Is that good for 3.51GHz?
