The 4 pin plug is for older boards. Leave the 8 pin plug alone.

Hey, leave 4 pin alone, I went from a board with 8 pin CPU power to my new board with 4 pin power. My new board is so much better, vdroop =0.000v lol.

You have board that takes 4 pin he need the 8 pin because it's eps motherboard. Last time I used 4 pin was for 939 so yes it's old to me.

Hahaha yeah yeah you're all right. What I meant was, could it fry the board if I use the 4 pin plug for some test run to see if the problem comes back.
Afaik the additional 4 pins from the ATX plug are said to be optional as long as you don't draw too much power, don't know about the other 8 pin plug though.

It will not fry your board but it might cause stability problems. 8 pin is used for more stable power flow for multiple processors.

Well I've tried without the additional 4 pin ATX plug for 5 reboots and some furmarks and was unable to reproduce the problem.
Somehow I rather suspect the 2x6 pin GPU plugs might have been badly seated when the problem occured but unplugging one of them really doesn't sound like a good idea.

As for the PSU brand, BeQuiet is from germany I guess so it's not too common on OCN. Reviews of their units are rather good from what I've read over the years.

idk 35 amps on the 12v line is kinda low for overclocking both of those parts. since at stock the 2600k uses 95 amps. Ad if you upped the amp limiter to like 115amps @ 1.49v then that a estimated 171.35 watts just from the cpu and the gtx 570 uses about 220 watts. Butt if you are pulling 420for full system from wall at 75% effeciency your actually only doing about 315watts of actual work ifa ll media devices arent running also. As i know a hard drive will pull from .4amps to almost a full amp at full load from 12v and about same for 5v line.

So really your slowness could of been from getting dirty power from going out of spec with your psu ability put out clean, lower ripple power.

First: Allow me to just make a quick statement of "Thanks - honestly, many thanks!" to those who have both rep'd and said positive things about my marathon posts.. I often worry I write far too much and that no one will ever see this as being useful because of the long reads and often rambling disjointed thoughts~

Ok - with that done (wipes away tears and attempts to hide blushing~) --- I have to say, that if the issues are gone and the PSU is still functional --- I see no reason to replace it OR worry about it at this time. I hate to see a fellow PC lover and enthusiast waste money on an upgrade with no clear and present improvements to the system that even remotely reflect the price of said upgrade.

With that being my line of reason - Stick with this power supply -- chalk those messed up results as "loose plug / something that's now fixed!" and move on from here. Ignore the PSU haters (even though they have some very logical and strong points that I can't write against!) and only come back to this line of reasoning if / when the power becomes (re-becomes? - did we agree it was a power issue that caused this?) an issue in the [hopefully far off] future~

Best of luck, mystery solve / crisis averted / happily ever after begins here --- now time to go back to whatever it was we were doing before this became an event / spectacle~ ^_^
