955 BE build

Thread Starter
Hey guys currently i'm looking to buy this set up :

- Phenom II x4 955 BE with CMhyper212
- HD6850 sapphire
- asrock 870 extreme 3
- 4 GB DDR3-1333 Kingston hyperx (cl7)
- Stealthxsrteam2 500w

You think this mobo gonna be ok ? I find it has lots of features for good price.

What about 500w, i think that's enough or not ?

For the memory I don't really know what to take : 1333 or 1600 ?

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,

thorby

AMD will have new CPU's out in 1-2months I believe, you should wait till then and see what they are like. When they launch you can expect Phenom II's to drop in price too.

I have that board paired with a 955 as well and I love it, board looks nice, has lots of features, and is rock solid with my 4ghz OC, also have the NB up to 2.6ghz.

I've had my setup for about 3-4 months, not sure if any new boards have come out but this was a great bang 4 buck motherboard.

1333 will be fine, everything on this build looks pretty balanced, don't expect a monster OC on it though, this board won't be able to provide that.

Unless you can wait I wouldn't say it's worth your time to wait for the bulldozer launch, the phenom IIs aren't going to be able to get much lower I doubt you'd save more than $20. Unless you plan to crossfire later you can step down the PSU a little, go for a good brand name 400-450. Should last longer too.

Depends on what you classify as a " monster " OC , 4ghz prime95 stable with less than 1.5v, and a 2.6ghz NB is about what most people are able to get out of 955's without extreme cooling solutions. Regardless of the board.

I can get it to boot into windows at as high as 4.5ghz as well, just can't get it stable in prime, on a lame H50, so theres nothing about this board that would limit your OC IMO.

Go for it! Decent mobo for price indeed.

Scrappy: This is 1333 CL7 enhanced latency RAM, the ICs can probably do 1600 (albeit might need higher timings) or higher easily, if OC-ing bus clock; even then, he might just OC the multiplier as it's BE, so it won't matter.
