My Laptops video card quit!!! HELP!!

I know this is a site that generally caters to high end computing but I thought I'd run this anyhow!! I recently upgraded my Sony Vaio from Vista to 7 Ultimate. I know, Sony doesn't support non OEM OS upgrades!! Too late. Now the video card can't be detected and it's a decent card. I hate to just give up on it. I've been on Sony's websites and tried a few driver installs, but the system says there is no card at all!! Its a VGN-FZ290 and the card was, if I remember correctly, an 256mb 8400m Geforce. The built in webcam is also fubar now. All the research I've done into this has pointed me towards reinstalling the original OS that came with the laptop to restore factory settings!!! I don't have the disc anymore!!! Any advice!!??

Well, is it possible to go into Safe Mode and even see if its detected in there? I think Sony, being as good as a company they are, would help you. Never hurts to ask...

Have you tried Nvidia's official notebook drivers?

I've tried installing drivers from Nvidias website. Installation fails because the video card can't be found.
