run prime and push on your H60's block. watch the temps. if they go down when you push on it, then the mounting system isnt applying enough pressure on it own.

OK. So I went and got some ArtiClean and also Arctic Silver 5. I cleaned processor and the H60. Did a BB size drop in the middle.. took my time to screw it on all even, etc. Took longer, but still went up to 85+ degC in 5-6 minutes.

Any other suggestions?

Just tried this too. I think if I push any harder something will break. It's def not loose.. no help when pushing.

tubes coming off the block are warm and the top of the radiator (where the tubes go in) is pretty hot, but the radiator fins themselves don't seem to be warm at all.

hmm. well it was worth a try. i had similar issues with my I5 2500k and my H50 when at stock, cpu was shooting up to 85c +. turned out the spacers on my h50 weren't allowing the block to make good contact with the CPU. i ended up chopping the spacers in half to allow me to tighten down the bracket more. worked for me so i thought it might help you.

Hey I appreciate the help. My first post on this site was that I had bought a new Dell T7500 (Dual X5680 and 96gb ram), and also a Dell XPS 8300 (i7-2600 for my dad). When it came down to how I use the computer, it turns out the 2600 was just as fast for me. I don't need the extra cores. So this is really my first build in a long time. I built a PII system a long time ago, but things have changed a lot since then.

Maybe I will look at swapping the H60 with a new one. The way the backplate mounts to the little studs is kind of strange.. Doesn't really go down very tight But from what I understand I guess it's not supposed to, the back plate gets pulled up when you screw down the block to the cpu.

i agree about the backplate studs. they can be a pain in the ass. does the H60 have little plastic clips that slide into the mounting bracket itself?

No, there aren't an clips that I am aware of.

It's got the backplate that goes on the bottom of the board. You then screw the studs through the board into the backplate. Place the cooling block on top of the cpu and it has some thumb nuts that you screw onto the studs.

The studs don't screw all the way into the back plate because the mounting news built into the backplate can slip (backplate made of plastic).

This may be by design so you don't crush the motherboard, and the backplate just holds the studs into place for the cooling block.

I've been using this now for the last.. 45 minutes or so not with prime 95 but just reading on google chrome, etc. CPU holds at 36c when not under load.
