Router reccomenedations

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a new router to replace my BT HomeHub 2 (UK here) because it's awful, frankly. I need

-BOTH ADSL2+ and RJ45 WAN inputs
-At least 2 RJ45 outputs (preferably more)
-Wireless N wifi (not necessarily dual band)
-VDSL WAN instead of RJ45 would be nice but it really doesn't matter (the BT Infinity fibre optic plan provides a VDSL in RJ45 out modem)
-DMZ, UPNP and GOOD port-forwarding for minecraft and other games

And also a couple of questions:

Is gigabit ethernet worth it? Current ADSL speed is ~10Mbits up 1 down, advertised VDSL speeds are ~35-40Mbits up ~9-10Mbits down. Computer only has a 10/100 RJ45 slot in motherboard, so I assume not worth it.

Is DD-WRT worth using? If yes, preferably a router which is compatible with it could be suggested.

Budget is around GBP 40-50. I'm looking at a Cisco Linksys WAG120N but it doesn't have an ethernet WAN in, so when I get the VDSL plan in Q4 2011/Q1 2012 that router would be obsolete.

Any & all help is appreciated, thanks.

I recommend you get a separate WAP with good antenna profile. Those newer Linksys routers are supposedly crap, but I have never used them. The router you want may not exist.

Certain cisco products have a removable WIC, but those are probably out of your price / knowledge range.

The future WICs may support VDSL (perhaps they already do), but that's not my specialty.

Take a look at the SOHO cisco products they have a GUI that replaces the CLI where most options can be set.

Best of luck. Also you may want to check out actiontec products. Don't know if they are available for UK, but they have a few models.

I currently use Actiontec it is a good basic router.
