Computer Shuts Down Minutes After Desktop Help A Guy Out :))) - Page 5

Take your whole machine to a local computer store (NOT BESTBUY!!!!) One of the small privately owned ones. Tell them that you want to buy a heatsink and thermal paste. Ask them if they can help you put it on. Don't say you want them to do it for you, Just ask for help.

Okay well, I know I need thermal compound for sure, I still might be able to fix the heatsink pins by pushing the lead upwards with a pen or something... IDK, but thank you very much, for enlighting a newb... I have my drivers installed now no shutoff... so it must be that heatsink or something...

This happened to me before. It turned out to be my graphics card (the one in my sig). It wasn't overheating, but it had some kind of problem.

Try resetting the CMOS.

I shouldn't have to take it to any retailer, and don't worry, I wouldn't take it to best buy or any other scamfull place, those people make money from someone like me buying a already built PoS... Anyways, I'm gonna go out right now and get some thermal paste... What do I need to look for??? is there types.. Im kinda limited as far as brands, but is there anything about it i need???

Yes, go for a ceramic-based paste, like a silicone compound. Avoid the metal ones, they're conductive. Oh, and make sure that you don't get thermal glue.

Preferably not, ceramic thermal pastes are easier to use and just as good.

You need to take the advice of other people and correctly install a heatsink properly. A broken heatsink will not cool your CPU.

If this is too complicated for you, get a friend, parent, or anyone with a troubleshooting mental capacity.
