Help swapping CPU's

Thread Starter
I bought my dad a core 2 duo e7500 as an upgrade from his old core 2 duo. After installing it, the rig passes POST, but when it gets to the BIOS, it gives an "error" message about the "wrong CPU press F1 to start" or something like that. After that, it boots and runs, and XP accepts it is a e7500, just the bios is confused. If I upgraded the BIOS because it never has been, would that fix it? Tomorrow, I can tell him what I did, and after that I can get more information of you need it. Asus board, AMI Bios.

Thanks,
First System

Okay, thanks. Tomorrow after work I will. I was looking at the Asus website, and it has the list of supported CPU's, do I have to worry about that? I know it is a silly question, but I think the e7500 is newer then what he had in there.

Thanks,

Yes you should def. check your CPU against that list. Why not? Also you should do a fresh install of Windows after you get the BIOS issue sorted out.
