Overclock time.

Thread Starter
So ive read alot of basic 2500k Overclocking guides.

However, How do I know if my computer is stable?

So i enter the bios and set 45 etc etc and voltage to about 1.3v's... Do I just run stress tests and lower the voltage until it is stable? Im getting a asus p67 mobo what other settings Do i change?

Well, if it doesn't boot, it's not stable
post #3 of 9
Well, I wouldn't exactly "recommend" using the stock cooler @ 4.5Ghz, 1.3V though it is possible. Just watch your temps...closely.

Run IBT (Intel Burn Test). You will do fine with 5 Passes but I'd rather do a Maximum test with 20 passes just for certainty (definitely not required though).
Prime 95 works pretty darn well too. Again, watch your temps. I peak at 69C (it is summer here and my H60 just has one fan in exhaust so that is fine for me) and idle at mid-high 30's.

also, read this:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1036720684

You should hit 4.5Ghz with cheeky ease on that mobo (I have the pro).

Yea I have a Aftermarket cooler system set up so no worrying about temps. Any other settings I need to change?

So i get my new computer, change the multiplier to 45 and Vcore to 1.3 then test if it stable under a stress test? is that it?

isnt there a few more settings I need to mess around with>?

Read the link I posted .
It is pretty much as easy as that. Unless you love your electrons and potential differences that much, you don't need major tweaking to hit 4.5Ghz with that board.
Also, you might want to set the VRM frequency to 350Mhz.

I didn't even touch my vcore with my OC. It spiked at ~1.37v when I started stress testing and rapidly fell to 1.288v during the test. Also pay attention to your offset voltage and try to keep the offset+vCore sum less than 1.5v (I'd say 1.4v). The default setting is fine for now, but this is something to keep in mind if you want to play with it.

People have had random board set their offsets to 0.9v and have resulted in fried processors. Don't panic though, it won't be a problem.

Just follow the guide

That's really nice of 'em. At least if something goes wrong, it is not your fault

It is more fun to overclock yourself though... once you get past the initial fear of "I might blow up my pc if I didn't do it right".

PS:
