Pushing a gtx 580 to the max - Is it 24/7 safe? - Page 2

Okay guys, I just modified my bios, and I am now able to use up to 1.213v.

I just wanted to make sure before I did it that I would not damage the card by pumping more volts through it. Would it be safe to at least bench with?

For benching (read as: short durations), I think it would be fine so long as temps are kept in check. However, if this is for 24/7 usage, I don't think the card would last - especially for folding purposes. Even if temps were well managed, with the higher voltage, failures as a result of electronmigration becomes more and more of an issue.

Tread carefully if you are intending to keep your card for a while.

Hmm, I do intend to keep it for awhile.

What would you suggest for a 24/7 voltage on water cooling?

EDIT: Also, I just did a heaven run @ 960mhz w/ 1.175v, no issues. But I did have a little issue when nearing the 1.2v mark. I had to restart because it was stuck at 2d clocks/voltage.

are you going for 1 GHz?
i think 960 is a super high enough oc and 1.175v is pretty high for a gpu already.

Yeah, but think of the epicness!!!

I think though for 24/7 i'll just stick to the best oc i've found so far, 930mhz @ 1.125v.

If your WC block cools VRM's then you're OK to push some voltage..

On my stock air cooled Zotac GTX480 VRM's overheat if I push more than 1075mV and driver crashes, regardles of GPU speed..

I think that these cards do have some kind of a VRM heat protection that kicks in..

CHEERS..
