Best IPS Monitor for Casual Gaming/Movies

Thread Starter
I understand IPS monitors are not the best choice for serious gamers, but from reading the forums here i've learned that IPS is improving their response times which keeps a lot of gamers away. I also understand that there are no 120hz IPS monitors so that probably keeps some of the serious gamers away too.

It seems 8ms-to 16ms is common nowadays for IPS? (not positive if thats a Grey to Grey spec or Black to White to Black spec).

Has anybody had some recent experience with gaming on an IPS monitor? I'm looking to get either three 22-24" for a surround setup, or just one 27-30" one.

Can anybody offer some advice as to which IPS monitors these days are performing close to TN panels with respect to response times.

Dell U2311H ( few aggressive coating similar to U2410 )
Asus PA246Q ( expensive )
Asus ML239H ( cheaper )
HP ZR24W ( not deep black issue )

Cant buy U2711 or U3011, have excessive aggressive ag coating + small doth pitch = unreadable and cause eyestrain and too matt !

If u want 27", wait the S-PLS samsung SA850.

This modern IPS panel generally use excessive anti glare coating ( matte surface ).
is too matte, cause eyestrain and cause difficoult to text reading than medium or light coating by Tn and VA panels, and the whites appears whit dirty / grainy effect.

Thanks for explaining that. Makes sense, and I do notice the eye strain on mine.

The AG coating had advantages too. Like, for instance, no glare.

I don't find the AG on my U2711 excessive or intrusive, I actually like it, gives the monitor a nice look and actually strains my eyes less than a glossy panel.

It's very much a personal decision, so you can't really cover it with a blanket statement of good or bad.

I have one of the cheapest, and have had no problems with ghosting, only complaint would be the angle.

the better solution is light ag coating on VA or medium from tn.
if for u is not bad, for many user is extreme aggressive, in google there's many guides for remove this coating specially whit U27 and U30, the coating used by Asus and Hp is ligher.
