GTX 580 safe voltage?

Thread Starter
I have both my GTX 580s running at 1.150v, the max allowed by the stock bios, and I'm running at 920/1840/2200.

My max temps are 89 and 87 degrees on each card while running furmark/occt/kombustor/3DMark. I only see ~70-80 while playing most games.

Is the voltage I'm using safe? I haven't noticed any artifacts or anything ingame.

Thanks,

-SK

I'm 99% sure that's perfectly safe as there are modded bios's available that let you push the voltages higher so I assume 1.150 is more than fine. Those temps are a bit toasty but the card can handle up to 97C before it crashes so as long as it stays under 90 when you're gaming you should be fine.

On air cooling, no. Especially with those gpu temps.

I would back down the voltage to 1.1v.

Furmark/Kombustor on GTX580 = fail. The GTX580s (at least reference ones) have a power limiter that turns the voltage and clock down in stress apps like those. Heaven/3D Mark are much better as stability tests.

And like Behemoth said, you really should lower that Vcore

the voltage limit is a protection mechanism so its safe if u keep ur temps down. I have the gigabyte version.. stable at 981core @ 1.15v. I think you could drop ur temps down by 2-3c by lowering ur voltage, 1.15v seems a tad too high for 920core but then again we have different cards. here's a record of my gtx580 overclocking progress if you want to compare performance for clock/voltage. 69c was my highest temp reached with any oc, but i do have unorthodox air cooling.
