The power cable literally melted and exposed the conductors. Crazy! I'm really lucky the PC shut-off and that I was home when it happened. This experience is gonna make me think twice about leaving the PC running while I'm away.
Jeeeez. That poor pump was really trying to keep working then if it had to suck THAT
much current before finally giving up the ghost. I'm starting to wonder if perhaps one of those plastic blades broke off and lodged inside causing this. Definitely a rarity in either case.
While it is unlikely that it would have caught fire, I have seen a friend's truck go up in smoke because he had a grounding issue with his CB radio which caused the jacket to melt from the 12vdc line to ground and catch the carpet on fire. Scary stuff indeed!
