6970+6970+6990 Quadfire?

Thread Starter
Is this possible, I mean 6990+6970 Trifire is possible, and they make mobos with enough slots. Would it work?

This is a future question, as I and tryin to decide on 6990 or 2x Sapphire 6970s
There are no 6990s to buy atm, and no one knows when next batch comes
The Sapphire 6970s are $280 Each Shipped from a Top Rated Seller
The *(XFX/HIS)* 6990s are $700-750 shipped from various markets, but no one has them. .

yea i would work but youd need a stong enough psu

same as i could add 4870x2+4870+4870 and would be quadfire, or just grab another 4870x2

same with the 5970+5870+5870

I'd rather just get two matching 6990s. You're paying the same price anyways and it will save you money getting waterblocks.

i understand that discrete 6970s can clock better than the two gpus in a 6990, but what's the point of getting 2x6970s and a 6990? why not just go for a proper quadfire?

4x6970s>2x6970+6990 i think...

unless you only have 3 pci e slots

^^6990's are cherry picked silicon and will always have higher potential clocks.

Would require less power, not to mention it would be slightly cooler, not as cool as 2x 6990s but as I stated I am also only going for 2x 6970s because its 140+ cheaper *(No guarantee they wont crank up the price of the next batch since they sell faster then they can get em)*

What do you need all this power for?

You'd be better getting off a 2560x1440 monitor and another 6950 then having 4x 6970s for 1080P..
