Need airflow/fan suggestions, Antec 300 (NO, im not getting a new case) - Page 3

The ducting works mostly if you have your case stream lined ie air coming in front and exiting the rear, which it seems the setup you have, although if you add the duct it kind of makes your side fan moot.

Forget duct tape or any other cheap mod.

All you need are proper fans and a controller.. Preferably you want more air coming in then out.

That will keep your gpus cool.

Are they rear exhaust ref designs or the kind that exhaust hot air into the case? I hate those kind of cards.
1 exhausts into the case the other blows it out. but even behind the case there is a massive heat buildup, which im thinking might end up recirculating back into the case.

You haven't specified what kind of videcards you have, just the gpu's. Some vidcards blow their heat straight out the back. For them, closed slots are probably best.

For vidcards that exhaust into the case, you've got a problem. First of all I would go to the hobby store and buy sheets of stiff plastic and make a barrier around slot 1 that separates the cpu run from the rest of the case. Then make sure you have two exhaust fans at the back - top and rear. In the bottom of the case you should remove any slot covers. Then experiment with side exhaust vs side intake. With two front intake fans - something other small cases generally do not have - you may have enough air to allow for side exhaust. If side exhaust raises your tempts then you may need a rear extraction rig. Go study an ATCS 840 to see what I mean.

Good luck with your Antec.

I have the same case! its actually very good case for air flow now if you check your computer ALOT like daily and clean it out daily then id recommend negative air flow for best temps. So i'd put 2 scythe gentle typhoons (ap-15) in the front 1 on the side 1 on the back and MAYBE mod the PSU and put one in there. Then i'd keep the 140mm tri-cool at the top(hope this helps as i didnt read the post i just read the case and you saying dont recommend another case(; ) ALSO, for good cable management i'd recommend wire extensions for increased cable management if your wires aren't super long like mine

I specified in the post above you, one card blows out the back and the other blows into the case.

I actually have THREE intake fans at the front, one in the 5 inch drive bays. I will look up the ATCS right now and see what that is.

You want that top fan as an exhaust. The top and rear fans both as exhaust, and your other fans as intake. This creates flow through in your case, and as heat naturally rises this is the best method for flow through.

No need honestly, that would just be a massive time exercise for very little if any gain. In fact too much airflow from the side panel can disrupt the flow through of the air coming from the front. 4x 120mm fans and a 140mm fan is enough for a mid tower.

A card that blows out and a card that blows in... One card no matter what you do is going to get hot..

You might as well make your case negative pressure.. Swirling around hot air will make thing worse.. I would get two BEEFY exhaust fans then..

I'm confused. I thought the 300 had 2 120mm fans in the front, how do you say you have 3?

Get 2 120s in the front and leave the side intake empty. What ^^ said about using the side as an exhaust makes sense as well.

Edit: you say you put a 120mm in the 5.25" bays? Thats probably doing more harm than good. Get rid of it. You want cold air coming in from the bottom to the video cards, the 5.25" one would blow cold air straight out of the back of the case and "use up" the two exhaust fans for nothing.
