Need airflow/fan suggestions, Antec 300 (NO, im not getting a new case) - Page 4

First I would like to say I admire your conviction for sticking with the A300.
So, in the next couple months I plan on downsizing back to an Antec 300 from my 932 (A300 was my first case). I've never had a problem getting good temperatures from my first A300, but I wasn't running Xfire. I'm going to be gutting and rerouting everything in the 300, so I've had time to think about problems like this. I'm not going to tell you my mod plans because our setups are very different, but I will tell you what I would do in your situation:

- If you're using the stock fans, upgrade to higher CFM (higher static pressure for intakes).
- All front fans need to remain intakes.
- Rear and top fans need to remain exhausts.
- Side fan should be exhaust (in your particular case).
- Manage your cables as best you can.
- Flip your PSU's fan downward and cut out a hole for its fan.
- Cut a hole on the floor of the case and add an intake fan (just a few inches in front of the PSU)
- If you haven't already, get "high-flow" expansion slots.

I have flipped the PSU but have not cut the hole yet. Im going to also add the hole on the floor for another fan. Should that be intake or exhaust?

And the fan in the 5.12 inch bay you say is causing more harm then good? il check with it off and with it on and see what it does to temps.

What's a high flow expansion slot? i just take the PCI slot covers off. And when i drill the holes for the fan i think im also going to cut some cable managment holes.

I would make the floor hole's fan an intake fan.

The fan in the 5.25" bay shouldn't be a major issue. I would suspect that it would help more than hurt. Especially if you have a heatsink that is mounted so that fan blades on the heatsink are in a vertical position.

What I meant by high-flow expansion slot is something similar to the Lian-Li style cut-outs, or the HAF 932's "mesh". Something with holes of some kind. If you're just going to take them all off, even better.

Cutting for cable management in the 300 will certainly help your temps big time.

Oh i actually do have those meshy covers, my friend gave me them from his NZXT Beta Evo. But i decided to just take them all out.

Alright so from what i have gathered from this thread.
Exhaust in the rear, top rear and side panel, High CFM fans on those
Cable manage and cut holes on the bottom for intake
Keep the front intake fans.
Close up the sides from that graphics card that dumps into the case.

anything else?

I actually have THREE intake fans at the front, one in the 5 inch drive bays. I will look up the ATCS right now and see what that is.
Sorry for my lack of clarity. Your 120mm fan in the 5.25 bay is intake for the cpu zone I proposed. That should have a high cfm, with both top and rear fans set to exhaust, since even your top fan is at the rear.

The two other fans are for the gpu zone. If they have high enough cfm, then a side panel exhaust may help your case by exhausting the hot air put out by one of your vidcards.

Ok thank you

The next thing i need then is new fans. The front intake fans are 80CFM blue LED rosewill's and i guess those are alright. For the top exhaust, is the stock 140mm tricool fine? or should that be replaced. Lastly what should the 2 exhaust fans be, the rear and side panel exhausts.

i have this set up in my nzxt case and its working well for me and gets me really nice temps

1. keep your 3 front as intake, cool air is cool air is cool air. it will help your cpu heat sink
2. if you decide to cut a hole in the bottom in front of the psu, make it intake, or nothing at all, just a vent hole is okay too
3. side fan should be intake, open up that spare pci cover and let the front fans push the air out however it can since you have a gpu that vents to the inside
the back and top are the most important, make those exhausts

The stock Antec fans should be OK. That's one thing Antec does right. You talk about the top fan. Don't you have a stock rear fan as well?

As for side panel exhaust, I'd get a Kaze Maru 2 1200 rpm fan. The side panel opening is square, so much of a 120mm fan's output does not fill out the square, while a 140mm fills the square and only bits of the edges don't fit. The KM2's screw holes fit perfectly.

@ehume the case came with 2 fans stock, rear and top.
I used the rear fan on the side panel.
My current exhaust fan is the Blue LED fan that came stock with the NZXT beta Evo.

I will look at the kaze maru 2 now.
