Bought GTX 480 from 4890; should I of waited?

Thread Starter
First of all, I'm new, so hello!

Okay, so I've had my 4890 for a little over a year now, and i found it more then acceptable (ran everything I played max +aa), but a year is a long time to not upgrade, and I've had to satisfy my itch by window shopping on craigslist. Well, a few days ago I found a GTX 480 for $175, and thinking it was too good to pass up, jumped on it without thinking.

I've been using it all day (benching, stress testing, getting mad at BC2's crappy AA), and I can't help but wonder if I should of waited. I mean, I already was getting exactly what I wanted out of my 4890, and my plan was to hold out as long as I could until Battlefield 3 comes out.

Did I jump the gun?

You answered your own question, you were satisfied with your previous card.

However, the price you obtained the new card for is great deal.

As for BF3, no one can answer this, period. The only thing we have to go by is that the developers said expect something near the performance you currently get in BC2, or, it's comparable to it.

Great price for the card. If you sell the 4890, it will be a nice 'cheap' upgrade. And yes a 480 will play BF3. We just don't know if it will with AA or not

That is cheap..

if it was regular price i would have said no :b

Since my 2*480 had some cooler problems (i sold them without coolers on ) i replaced them both with 1: 560 Ti.. and upgrading again next year when nvidia release "Kepler"

i was surprised that 560 ti was so fast.. i see barely any fps difference in sc2

SC2 is cpu bottlenecked when compared to powerful video cards since it's a dual core game.

Sweat, sounds unanimous; rep for all. Funny story though; the guys said his teacher gave it to him because he didn't know what it was, and I guess the teacher got it because it was randomly shipped to his address. lol wat?

Also, what's the going rate for 4890's nowadays?

Edit: how do I rep? lol

To be honest that story seems like a load of bull crap. But hey, you got a smoking deal sir!

And the gtx 480 will be able to play bf3. I don't anticipate bf3 being more demanding than bc2.
