Sadly Ubuntu is great for everything except serious gaming. The best games don't hit linux.

Get a copy of win7

i just want to chime in here and state that i run only Ubuntu and i do game in Linux. it's great fun if you have the heart for it.

like people said, it will require effort on your part and you have to be willing to accept that many games just won't run, and you'll have to wait a while before you can hope to play any newer titles. yet still, there are a surprisingly large amount of big name games that do work under Wine. you can check at WineHQ and at the Codeweavers Compatibility Center.

people (such as myself) tend to do this because they a) love linux, b) enjoy the challenge, and/or c) take issue with Microsoft.

i'm all of the above. biggrin.gif

and for what it's worth, there's nothing quite like the sensation of running windows games on a non-windows OS. biggrin.gif i find it makes all my games more fun. wink.gif but that may be just me. wink.gif

there're also a lot of great Linux native games, as well as indie games with lower requirements (and hence generally easier to get working under Wine) that you may never have otherwise gotten to experience that are really great!

i also support Codeweavers and use their product, Crossover Games, to make working with Wine a lot easier. the company is made up basically of Wine devs, and the code gets merged back into Wine, so the money you pay for the product supports further Wine development, which is good! biggrin.gif

if any of this resonates with you, i highly encourage you to go for it! live large, live the dream of a life free of Microsoft. biggrin.gif

A lot of good games run on wine, mainly because the more popular ones are what the Devs tailor for. With a few exceptions, like Bad Company... Though all in all if you want the latest and greatest Linux doesn't qualify. It still has great gaming though, just older games. Some in which I think are way better. CS:S is still epic, Urt, MW2, ect... ect...

You can go to http://www.dotdeb.com to view many of the games that they have and decide for yourself if the gaming on Ubuntu is good. My personal favorite sections are rpg games and puzzle games.
