What temp. reading is correct?

Thread Starter
Hi just bought a Phenom II x4 840 and fitted and Thermaltake ISGC200 to it. But can't understand what temp. reading is correct for the core or which one to keep an eye on when O/C it This is a snap shot at idle.

make sure u have it clipped in properly and not too much thermal paste also see if speedfan shows the same temps

Is that idle? If so, you're idling over the maximum safe temperature, which is 62C. Reseat your cooler right now, before you burn the chip.

^^^ I would agree them temps at idle are way to high. They should be in the 30c's range. But that will also depend on the ambient temp. But shouldn't be any higher than very low 40c on a stock cooler.

Those temps are at idle, the heat sink is secured firmly, there is a good even spread of paste. But am I looking at the core temp readings or the TMPIN1 reading? on other threads here I have read conflicting things. Please help

Core. Your CPU is still burning up. I wouldn't run it at all until you figure what is wrong.

63 degree on core is just fine

core temps r always higher than actual cpu temps :\\

but for idle 63 degree on core is high

62C is the maximum safe temperature, and considering it is an idle temperature, his load would be near 90C and would probably cause severe degradation.

You need to improve case-wide airflow. This means cable management, new case, or both. Both your CPU and your VRMs are idling way too high.
