Im a newbie, Please help me pick a good sound system

Hello guys!

I'm not an audiophile. And dont know much about speakers. So please help me and please read on redface.gif

I have been using a (Creative) Cambridge Sound Works 4.1 for the past year or two. I liked the sound quality a lot and it felt quite natural and nice and relaxing. I have almost always used on board audio, (I have an old creative SB live 4.1 PCI card too, but I deem it to be too old and its in my other P4 PC) Recently a friend gave me his Ozaki Nuke 28 5.1. So I have been using the ozaki for the last few months and couldn't help but notice that the sound quality wasn't as good as my 10 year old Cambridge Sound Works System. frown.gif Specially noticed it when playing music and playing games such as assassins creed 1 & 2 (they have some wonderful background music's)

So right now I am a newbie, and wanting to buy a good sound system for my computer, you know something that is soothing, feels natural. Preferably surround sound would be good, I have heard some goods and bads about logitech, so not sure what to get. I cant spend a huge sum of money on it, so something that will satisfy my needs.
Oh, and if the price is right then I might also try to grab a Creative X-Fi PCI Express card too if you guys say so.

It seems to me that you are happy with what you have, why do you want to get something else? Because it's old? If you are happy with it just stick with it until it breaks. Old doesn't mean it bad.

I think you didn't get to read my situation. You see I was using a Cambridge Works 4.1 System for some time until I got a Ozaki Nuke 28 from a friend. The Ozaki Nuke 28 's sound quality is not as good as the 10 year old Cambridge Works. Even the Ozakis Sub sounds a lot dull. I have put the Cambridge works to a different PC and now I wanting to get something that will be good for me.

Well I am a total noob on this, I dont have a fixed budget but wouldn't want to spend a lot on sound, I just want something that feels natural and soothing. maybe around the $100 mark. Purpose would be Music, and Games. I don't like headphones so I would prefer a surround sound system maybe 5.1?

But anyhow, recommend me some good sound systems?

as for a sound card lets say the PCI Xonar DG will do perfectly it's 30$
More to spend get the Xonar DX or if you game alot 75% of your usage is gaming , go for SB X-Fi titanium
Those are around 80$ or less

After chosing a sound card we can talk about speakers

Well I dont know, I will get the sound card if I only really need to. trying not to spend much on it. But for the sake of the conversation lets say I am going use ASUS P6T Onboard sound. What kind of speakers should I be getting for the onboard sound?

But hey, incase I might get a Creative X-fi, what speaker should I be getting then?

just wanting some suggestions for speakers when using on both onboard and extra sound card. so that way I get some room and think things over, and decide what route I should be going smile.gif
