Just months after the final version of Firefox 4 reached final stage, Firefox 5 is now out. This version is the first in Mozilla’s new release cycle of smaller, more frequent upgrades, as opposed to huge ones every few years.

I guess the updates are coming now

It goes to show competition is good. Just as Firefox forced IE to move on from the horrible mess that was 6 (not that it's great at the moment, but it's a world away from where it was) Chrome has driven yet more innovation and improvement among browsers.

Open source software and competition always benefit the consumer, and Firefox is a really great bit of software.

Yippee, just another version that's gonna bug me for an upgrade despite it not supporting my addons. Not even 4 supports all my addons and I've had tons of problems with it on my laptop. Sticking with good ol' 3.6 for now.

Off topic: I love that comic that your avatar's from, .:hybrid:., the part where he smacks the Rattata gets me every time.

You can always force Firefox to support your addons...change extensions.checkCompatibility to false.

And yeah, on Friday there was a test day for Firefox 5's compatibility with major websites, plugins, etc. It makes sense that it's being released. As the article says, the updates really aren't even noticeable. I've already been testing Firefox 6 and 7, and I still can't notice a difference. It makes me sad.

How about they all worked together to release one product with the best of them all. That's far better than competition and the endless patents in my opinion.

Updated to the final release quite a while ago. Everything went smoothly. I only use 4-5 essential addons and they all remained functional after the update.

Google has destroyed version numbers in software.
