Is 4870x2 worth paying $140?

Thread Starter
I have currently a 4870 1GB in my rig. I was wondering if its worth paying 140 to drop a 4870x2 with Arctic Cooling Xtreme heatsink.

It will make my system Trifire.

I want to know if dropping $140 is worth it. Or is it worth possibly saving for a 5870/6870 and replacing my 4870 instead of Trifire?

I dont really care much for the new gimmicks in 5000 and 6000 series just looking for performance.

How much more or less performance would a 6870 be compared to Trifire 4870?

which route should I take?

I have 850w of power supply so I think I can run Trifire.

I play at 1152p and want to have a solid 60fps high minimum fps and max settings is what im looking for.

dont really care much for over 60 fps.

I'd say thats a good deal. Considering the 4870 is comparable to the 5770, and the 5770 is still around $120 each. Basically two 5770's minus dx11. Either way, pretty powerful card for that price.

Yes it's worth. AFAIK 6870 is weaker than 4870 X2 only minus You don't get DX11 with this GPU cause it's only DX10/DX9, but who cares, DX11 is still crappy and there's no such difference in graphics between DX11/DX10.

4870X2 is a legendary card. Worth having. Bit of an odd ball with its weird 6/8pin placement.
That would be a good upgrade, certainly for the price.

just picked mine up for $110 you wont be disappointed ill prolly go quad or trifire here pretty quick i would just stick with that card for that price the dx11 cards wont be able to realy push the nice dx11 features with out alot of lag.

that card will crush settings in dx10
