Headphones

Thread Starter
I am looking for a set of good inexpensive over the ear headphones. I have some off name ones now that keep falling off my ear. I only use them for gaming.

are you going to be using you new cans for only gaming too?

"Inexpensive" is a relative statement that I can tell you, from experience, means vastly different numbers to different people... especially on a website devoted to a segment of individuals who often spend thousands on equipment for almost unnoticeable increases in performance~

With that in mind - I'll assume your budget is "above low end" but very far off of "high end" --- also known as around 50 dollars~

I have two pairs of headphones I use on my PC --- the one I prefer is the Pioneer SE-M390 - as they sound much cleaner than the second pair I will mention. The Pioneers mention "Bass Boost" but they are honestly not that bass heavy without making massive adjustments to a software equalizer (such as in winamp). They are not tight, have large ear pieces with soft pading, and are comfortable for sessions of headphone wearing above 6-8 hours. If I recall, around January I paid like 40-45 for these, and I got a free pair of ear buds Ive long since lost as part of the "package deal". I imagine if you look around you can get them a bit cheaper -- especially with coupon codes or "general item" discounts that pop up fairly often~

The other suggestions is a USB headset - the Creative Fatality headset. While these often sound louder while I use them (even at the same volume level in a program / windows - they aren't as clear. I would say the quality of these is, if all factors such as highs and lows and vocal and whatnot are considered, about 15% lower than the previously mentioned Pioneers. I have had this headset a lot longer, and it has the mic, which is nice. Its also USB, which I used to really like because it allowed me to have speakers plugged in as well as this headset, and I wouldn't need a Y adapter to have them both connected. With a USB headset, you can leave the speakers in, tell windows in the little sound icon in your system tray to swap where it outputs the sound with two clicks, and then instant headphone usage... then swap back to speakers, without muting / messing with plugs / volumes. While these are marketed as "gaming" headphones / headset - I find that if I wear them for more than about 2 hours, they press on my ears in a way that causes me to adjust them often. Not world-shattering, but annoying and occasionally slightly painful.

Hopefully there's something in this point to help you out~ I'm sure audio equipment is somewhat of a personal opinion type of thing - but I can say no one has ever said either of these headphones were "bad" or "crap" when they have used them in my setup. The USB part of the creative headset means its not likely to "short" and have one earpiece go bad - while the Pioneers are really high quality and also come with a really long extension cable that allows me to get up without taking the headset off and wander a bit~ Both solid choices overall, and I can only imagine many other users have good suggestions as well~

Whatever you decide - come back and leave an update post... I'm curious not only what everyone else will suggest - but what you go with in the end~

Looking to spend less than 50. Play FPS and racing games. Would love surround sound. Current sound is onboard sound card.
