{SMH} Blockbuster L.A. Noire faces credits crisis

Thread Starter
I found this to be an interesting insight into the industry here in Oz.

Is it the same OS?

Quote:
It's one of our biggest cultural exports since Crocodile Dundee but the fanfare surrounding L.A. Noire only further twists the knife for the approximately 130 Australian developers who claim they were not credited for up to four years of work on the game.

As a game developer I find it disturbing that people are left out of the credits. All the corporate big-wigs give a crap about is their profit, and rarely care what they have to do to get it. If you're going to force people to work 60 hour weeks and work weekends as well, you better damn well put their name in the credits.

Like they care....

Come on this is The Corporate Business World, where only 3 types people matter, the founder / owner, the board, and the Investors....

Reminds me of that line in Blade (The Movie)

"Do we have any other important matters to discuss?"

Which is one of many reasons that I'm glad I don't work for a corporation. One of the few large companies in the world without a board or investors, or corporate greed.

I'd want it, just so I can point it out when I'm job interviewing.

I'd be sorely disappointed if I was left out of the writing credit of my lab's latest paper.

I do. There's usually a scene during or after the credits and I'm not about to miss that. Also, since a lot of the games I play come from a few select companies, I like spotting names that've worked on previous games.

There's also the occasional silly credit, like from Policenauts' credits:

A position dedicated to breast physics? All the more reason to like Kojima.

Would you guys please mind reading the article before bashing the fact that credits matter. Yes, we get it: You don't read credits! That's nice. But not the point.

Read the article and you'll realize why your point is moot: The programmers/developers who were not included on the credits spent valuable time working on a very successful game. Without their name on the credits, this thins out their job opportunities; essentially it makes it harder for them to prove they were working on the project (as a significant member), and so finding a position somewhere else is harder for them. One example was a guy who spent literally 25% of his career working on the project (4 years or something), and he was not included in the credits.
