For music I definitely like using foobar2000. customizable and light for my gaming laptop as I play starcraft 2 ^_^. also it has wasapi, which owns. :]

For videos I use PotPlayer by Daum. Best player I've ever used for videos.

VLC all the way.

Except for music of course, for which I use Foobar2000.

but still other players offer the same type of features so its just all preference.
At the moment I just use wmp10 on vista & it plays FLAC songs with some plugins irrc. Soon to get a good headphones & amp. Should I still get foobar2000? Would the audio quality be any better over wmp10?

thanks

WMP12 for the music, MPC:HC+CCCP for the videos. Lovin' the GPU acceleration! I think it's the only player so far to support it. Could be wrong, though.

What I'm amazed at is the number of people here using VLC. I've encountered VLC on numerous systems over the years, the last one being ~2-3 months ago, and boy, did it suck every single time... From very slow seeking times to non-functional codecs, to frequent hangs, crashes & artifacting. Have at least SOME of the numerous problems been fixed recently? Because I can't really see tech-savvy people like you, folks, using such a poor media player
Don't take it personally.

Winamp and Media Player Classic + CCCP.

I tried Foobar2k and tried to like it for almost a year and a half. I realized I needed to stop drinking that Koolaid because it's a dumb program that doesn't yield any benefit other than the occasional inconvenience of WASAPI taking exclusive control of my audio...which is dumb. Went back to Winamp and have been happy since.

Zune for music. Absolutely love the organizing system and overall look of it. Songbird for FLAC files.

VLC and WMP for videos.

ZUNE! i love the interface, i also own a zuneHD 64gb. great player.

i used to try to use iTunes. but i hated the sh#ttyness of the software. i ended up just using third party apps for syncing all my iPods because iTunes takes an hour to open, then freezes everytime you click something or plug an ipod in.

for video files i use VLC just because i have never had a file it wouldn't play, and it is very quick to open and lightweight.

My thoughts exactly. VLC suffers a bit from popular-itis. So many people swear by it that it's put on this undeserved pedestal... and really, it's just average. Media Player Classic (w/ CCCP) has never led me astray.

For music, I use Clementine. I'm sad to see no mention of Clementine or Amarok in this thread. I've tried just about every music player out there, from Winamp to Songbird to foobar to (puke) iTunes. I'm very particular (read: picky) about the way my music is presented to me... especially after my brief stint with Gentoo a few years back, when I fell in love with the Linux-only Amarok 1.4. It just worked, on so many levels. These days, Amarok is a bloated monstrosity, which sours all the promise of its Windows port. Clementine is a restoration of the much beloved Amarok 1.4 of yore, and I love it. Not as solid as Amarok in its prime just yet, but that's what beta testing is for.
