Advice Needed: Sli GTX 580 3GB or GTX 590 - Page 4

(@ Icekilla and Mako0312) To tell ya the truth, I will be using it only to game on. I don't know how to program or anything, but the sweet spot for RAM always seems to jump up a few GB every few years. I guess that its to future proof the system.

I would like to get good with new programs (especially photoshop) and put my the rig to work, but I need to find the time to learn :/

What's your budget? As in, how much are you willing to spend MAX? Will that price tag include monitors, keyboard, mouse, speakers or headphones, and other peripherals?

Actually, you'll find out that 16GB of RAM doesn't play all that well with Sandy Bridge. There's been a lot of people having issues making it work. And there's no possible way you'll EVER use 16GB of RAM on that particular machine, just gaming. Overkill right now is 8GB, as the norm is 4GB for a gaming build.

I'd definitely look into dropping yourself down to 2x4GB of memory instead though. It'll give you overall less headaches.

My budget is $2750 EXCLUDING monitors (I already have 3 Alienware 3d ones ), keyboard, mouse, speakers, or any other peripheral. All I need is the tower filled with lots of powerful components haha

What's the issue with 16gb? Looks at rig... I never knew there was an issue, honestly.

Btw, 3gb sli. Just ask the poster below me.

You hadn't listed a mobo yet, might as well grab mobo for Tri-SLi!!! You should be able to piece together a decent rig around 3x 3G GTX580's with the extra $1,000 leftover...

I won't tell you to buy a Maximus IV Extreme, but I own one and love it. In Tri-SLi the cards run x8, x16, x16. That will fill up all of your slots unless you watercool them to make 'em single slotted. Between that mobo and a 2600k, your looking at $650 right there though.

There is also the Asus P8P67 WS Revolution for a little less moolah.
