Need a 6950 that can be flashed to a 6970.

Thread Starter
I have been looking around a little bit and I can't seem to find a reference design 6850 2gb anywhere. At this point, I don't really care if it is reference design (thought it would be preferred). I just need a 6950 that can be flashed into a 6970. Please help me find one!

It is highly recommended that you DO NOT flash a 6950 to a 6970. You have a high chance of burning out the card cause the memory voltage is too high.

Didn't MSI Alex post that AMD is shipping 6950s laser cut now? You may be out of luck if you're buying new.

There's always second hand cards. I'd check the OCN marketplace.

Techpowerup. You need to just do a Shader Unlock instead so it doesn't change anything else.

Are they both literally the same card, just one is locked down? or is there some other difference between the two?

All over the forums. My buddy who reviews GPU's flashed it, overclocked and benched it and it now artifacts. I think all you want to do is unlock the shaders....... The VRMs run hot due to the 6970 voltage or something of that sort. I would check it out.... Not worth it IMO.
