But with many of the boards that people suggested for a SB build, it's not SLI compatable?

Are you really going to go SLI, or are you succumbing to marketing gimmicks?

Either way, a dual-GPU setup with an E8500 would be ridiculous. With the amount of money you're spending on that system, you might as well get a modern system that performs as good or better with a single GPU and newer CPU tech.

500 dollars get you everthing but power supply and hard drive which is another hundred dollars.

You are MUCH BETTER OFF buying 2500k and p67 motherboard then buying a outdated intel dual core(bad for gaming) or amd quad core which are about 1/3 slower than intels cpu's.

Buy the 2500 k and go from there, and you will be set for next 3 years. Buy 45nm amd quad and youre buying 2008 technology.

Intel will release new processors for p67 and z68 motherboards in 2012 that will make amd's current 45nm quadcores look like a total joke. If you buy p67 you will have upgrade path for next couple years.
