Only 2GB of 4GB RAM usable

Thread Starter
[EDIT] Pretty sure I found out why this isn't working for me. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2850/20 Any recommendations after reading this? Think Gigabyte would give me a non-P55M board?[/EDIT]

I have 2x2GB RAM installed in slots 1 and 3 (white ones) of my GA-P55M-UD2. In Windows 7 (x64) it says I have 4GB installed but only 1.99GB is usable. Same basic thing in Mac 10.6.

I've read a few other forums and it seems that this is not a completely uncommon problem with the GA-P55M-UD2.

Some of the solutions were setting the Performance Enhance to Standard and setting the QPI/Vtt Voltage to 1.25V. I have done both and neither work.

Any other recommendations? I would really appreciate it.

How much memory does the BIOS recognize? If it is an intermittent problem, then adjust DRAM voltage or QPI/VTT might fix it. If it always happens, test each stick of memory individually to make sure they are both working. If both sticks are functional, flash to the latest bios. And lastly, if flashing to the latest bios doesn't help, reseat your CPU. The memory controller is on the processor, so often times if you have a bent pin in the CPU socket, slight misalignment of the CPU in the socket, or too much heatsink pressure, this can be the exact problem you run across.

If your heatsink may be too tight this sometimes is the culprit of the issue. It happens on LGA1366 and happened to me a while back. I had a member tell me this and it worked..... +1 to Dopamin
