Good MX700 Replacement?

Thread Starter
Anyone know how well some of the newer Logitech mice stack up against the MX700. My MX700 is over 7 years old and is a beast, but I fear it may be about that time to replace it soon. I was looking at the G700 and the G500. I'm not opposed to having a wired mouse (the MX700 is wireless with a cradle), and it looks like the G500 and G700 are pretty much the same form factor as the MX700, right?

I used to have the MX500 and I really liked it. Now I use a G700 at work and am seriously considering buying a second one for at home. Probably one of the best mice I have ever used. If you like the MX700, my guess is that you will like the G700.

The G500 and the G700 are pretty much the same mouse, just the 700 is wireless and the 500 can only store 1 profile, correct?

You should get the g400 if you love the shape of the mx700. The g400 have a better sensor than both mice you mentioned

HaiiYaa,

How so? Because it is optical vs. laser?

I'm also considering the MS Sidewinder X8 and any others. I would prefer to keep it under the $60 price point, but could be convinced to go a little bit higher (like the G700) if there is a big drawing factor to a specific model.

No I don't rule out mice just because its a laser, but based on performance. The g500 and g700 will have 4-5% acceleration.

The g400 is supposedly using an upgraded version of the Avago ADNS-S3080 sensor which perform great and doesn't have acceleration. Its only drawback is some prediction if you don't like that

Yeah, I'd get the g400 if I were you, I've had an mx518 for years and currently have a G700 as well. I like the 518 more but the 500Hz hack doesn't seem to work for me.
The G400 is the same shape exactly as the mx 518 and presumably the mx700, the differences are it goes to 3600dpi over the 518's 1800 (care), it does 1000Hz out of the box and it looks a little different.

The G500 feels slightly different but if you can get over the acceleration it's a very nice mouse as well, the G700 is a different shape but again feels nice enough.
The thing that gets me is the acceleration on the G500 and G700 is very noticeable, it doesn't affect my scores in games but it gets on my nerves when I'm gaming.

Hope this helps, it's all subjective though so you should try out the mice before you buy if possible.

Out of the three I have I'd take the 518 any day if I could get above 125Hz to actually work with my current setup and I reckon I'll get the G400 when it comes out if it's not overly expensive.

Edit:

Yeah prettymuch, but they're different shapes and the 700 has a few more buttons. The G500 is closer to the shape of the MX518/MX700 than the G700 is though.

I'm not sure if my MX700 has acceleration or not, never really considered any of that kind of stuff. What are the most recommended mice around my price point without regard to brand? I'm trying to take a look at everything, I just know I do like Logitech in general.
