Need a Printer!

Thread Starter
Hey!

I think this thread goes here...

Anyhow, I send a lot of things via courier using online services (which requires printing), and do a lot of financial paperwork which is basically just printing numbers and arranging/checking them.

Now, I've not had a printer up until now (using relatives/friends), but it's starting to annoy me.

I need a good, cheap printer, doesn't matter if it's only black and white, and one that the inks don't cost twice as much as the printer itself, and are long lasting (not for regular use).

I know nothing about printers, but I need it to print well, reasonably quickly, MOST OF ALL heave cheap/refillable ink, and be under, say, £40/50.

Any suggestions?

Got this one at home except mines white

Use mine everyday printing about 10 pages on average and it barely uses any ink and each Cartridges in tesco's is only £10 for the black and £13 for the colour, or you could just get it refilled for half that, I do and you get a free mint

How long does the ink last? Wouldn't inkjet dry up after a week without use?

I'm pretty sure it won't, but as I said, I know nothing.

No it doesnt dry up went on hol for 2 weeks last year and it was perfectly fine with no use.

It lasts on average about 250-400 pages per ink Cartridges,

If you print loads of photos it will drain quickly ofc but if its just work documents your fine for ageeeees, All i print is my coursework and thats a mix of photos and office and it barely goes down

This could be a good option -

I have one myself, it prints really quick and i'm still on the toner that comes with it after about 3 months!

I was always getting beat up by ink cartridges that dried up from not being used regulary (how to open these up could be a different thread).I decided to go lazer for anything that only had to be black and white.I sometimes print my communities monthly newsletter so I also needed something that could pound out the pages cheap and reliabily. For the real big print jobs I bought a rebuilt HP 4050N.This thing is sub-2 cents a copy and is a real workhorse. It has the capability to be networked as it has a JetDirect card in it.Old tech (I believe mine was first made in 2001) but tough as nails,I have 2 of them. There are times when hook-up via USB is was needs to be done,in these cases I use a Samsung SCX 4826FN. It has all the features (fax, copier, duplex, network capable) and only cost me 154.00 with a dead unit trade in at Office Max.I bought the Samsung because of price,it was lazer, and it could be networked, and they gave me 60.00 off for a dead ink printer I turned in. Since I went lazer no more wasted ink.For when it must be color I use a HPL7590,great printer but expensive cartridges. The rebuilt HP4050N with jetDirect card and an extra toner cartridge cost me 300.00 Expensive inital cost but cheap per copy price and one very tough printer. These HP 4050's are in the class of printers that are designed to be fixed, not just thrown away. The Samsung is a throwaway (I did get the 2 year warranty) and the HPL7590 is a throwaway.

Thanks guys.

The running cost of something like a 4050N would kill it, and I just realised a wired one would be a pain too in my room...

Considering getting a HP Deskjet 3050, good reviews, wireless, and ink is a tenner. Sounds good, right?
