6870 memory clock not reducing, 60c idle..

Hi, I've been having this problem for a while (although I swear when I got the card 6-7 months ago this wasn't the case).
The memory clock on my card doesn't seem to want to budge when not used, the core clock goes from the normal 900mhz to 300mhz when the GPU isn't being used but the memory clock stays at a firm 1050mhz throughout causing my idle temperatures to be 60-65c rather than the normal 40c I got when I bought it, here's a quick screenshot of what's going on:

I've tried quite a few things, doing a full driver re installation (/w sweep), ending all the non-OS based processes to see if any of them were utilizing my GPU but nothing... memory clock won't budge.

Hopefully someone can help me! Any replies are greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.

I'm not sure if 6870 is supposed to do that, but many card aren't. Mine, for example.
Something about frequent changes in GDDR5 frequency causing it to degrade faster...

You can still set 2D and 3D profiles in MSI AB and force it to reduce all clocks.

I'm fairly certain it should, when I first got it, it would underclock fine when not being used and idle at 40c, only the past month or so has it stopped doing it which is what makes it even more strange.

Hmm... Have you had MSI AB from the start? Maybe interference form AB is causing that?

Now that you mention it I did start using afterburner around the time it stopped underclocking, although I only use afterburner rarely if I notice my temperatures are too high and want to check on my clocks and a few other things, I'll have a look in the settings but I don't think they relate.

I looked around in afterburner and couldn't find anything to help unfortunately, problem persists...

Are you using one or two monitors? When I have two monitors on, my memory does that too. Try disabling hardware acceleration on flash videos also, that might do something.

Sir you are a scholar and a gentlemen, that did it! I switched it to just one monitor and low and behold it drops to 300mhz and the temperatures are now a satisfactory 45c idle, fantastic.

Although this does bring up some other issues, I like having two monitors for obvious reasons and having to keep one turned off in order to get good idle temperatures is a little dissapointing, is there a way around this? Surely it doesn't take an extra 750mhz to run an extra 720p does it? Seems a little strange.

I've run three monitors on one 5850 and it would still downclock fine, so not sure what the deal is with your situation.

That is strange then.
