Pioneer-VSX-520-K 2 channel mode

Will I need a sub in channel mode with this receiver, my 5.1 sony receiver uses the sub for bass and and other 5 speakers you don't hear any out of. I would mainly buy this for 2channel audio listening.

I only ask because I just purchased a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-HK-3490-Radio-ready/dp/B00198F89A/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1"]Harman Kardon HK 3490[/ame] for 2 channel music listening. I only decided on this receiver because its one of the only 2 channel receivers that have optical and coaxial. But if I can save 100 dollars and potentially have a decent 5.1 receiver if I ever decide to use it for Movies why not?

That's not a bad idea. You also get hdmi inputs if you plan on using other devices.
