Revised Headphones Advice - Page 4

Please don't get the Forte. I'd hate to say, "I told you so" when that thing dies in less than a year.

A good amplifier that will power the DT880 250 ohm properly would probably in the $150-250 range.

How well would they run just off of the Titanium HD?

Honestly, I don't know because I haven't tried a Beyerdynamic headphone yet nor have I tried my Sennheiser HD600 straight from my Titanium HD. The last time I ran a headphone that was starved of power on a standard sound card (my JVC HA-DX3 on a Xonar D1 and X-Fi XtremeMusic), it sounded terribly harsh with non-existent bass. My Sennheiser HD238 exhibits the opposite issue when not driven properly by my Zune HD. It has really fat, slow bass and nearly no treble when I'm not using my Fiio E5 headphone amp. These are just two examples but your experience may vary.

And...cuad is here to share his god-like wisdom.

Bah, I thought the Titanium HD had a headphone amp. This changes everything. Either you go a lower end X-fi and optical out to say an Asus ST / STX for CMSS-3D purposes or add a headphone amp to the HD.
or he can just get a PRO 750.

Whats a good amp I just just use a a pass through from Titanium HD<AMP<880DT's?

cuad could I just use the Fiio e7 as a pass through? I'm fine with spending another $100 if it could make the headphones sound better.

Here's another thing I should be asking whats a good cheap amp I could use to make these headphones sound good.

I can't tell u cause I don't know what a properly driven dt 990 sounds like (I can't compare).

I wouldn't use the Fiio e7 if I were you anyway. It'd be dumb to just use the amp part of it when you're paying for the DAC part too.

(that's why I sold my titanium HD. I chose the fiio e7 over it cause to me they all sound alike.)
