Revised Headphones Advice - Page 5

From what I've read, the Fiio E7 has the amplifying section of the Fiio E5 which is...a $20 portable amplifier. You'll need to go higher up than that. The Fiio E7 is a DAC before it is an amplifier. The amp that goes with the E7 is the E9. I've heard that thing outputs a lot of power but once again, all a bunch of hearsay until I buy one (which I probably won't because a Little Dot MKII sits on the bedside counter).

Well what would be a good amp then? I'd like to stay around $100 if so less.

I've been so tempted to buy that mixamp. I know it's a piece of crap, but I want one simply because I have multiple computers that I switch my keyboard/mouse/headphones/microphone between, and it would be so much easier to plug in my headphones and mic into the mixamp instead of the back of my computer.

I've searched for alternative Headphone Amps / USB DACs with Microphone inputs and haven't found much

(and yes, I realize I could just buy two 3.5mm extension cables and leave them on the desk. That just seems a bit messy though).

Hmm. There's not really that many good amplifiers in the $100 range unless you figure in the bang-for-buck Fiio E9 (solid state) or maybe a Little Dot I+ (hybrid tube/solid state).

I really wouldn't advise planning your audio upgrades around your headphones but rather your headphones around your audio.

Well how would maybe this amp do?

Or would like I said before be better of buying the ASUS Xonar Essence STX. Now if I'd buy that sound card instead, how much would the difference be for gaming wise between that and the Titanium HD?

You know what you could do OP?

You could get rid of that raggedy Titanium HD and replace it with a less expensive Xonar DG + FiiO e5 double amp combo.

Now would this be good for gaming? Remember the #1 purpose for this is gaming, I'm fine with doing that. But why wouldn't I just use the Titanium HD and just but the e5?

Don't ask me about sound cards and gaming. I was a top Crysis Wars player with just my ALC889.

The DG has its own amp, probably better than whatever the HD uses. I just threw out a silly and cost effective idea where you would amp the amp.

I dunno. There's a noob on youtube who says the dt990s sound good out of an e5, but there are others who disagree. They sound fine to me with the e7, but maybe they could sound a lot better.
